11 homeless after Christmas Day fire in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE – Eleven people were left homeless after a fire destroyed two townhouses and severely damaged two more on Linden Drive on Christmas Day.

Acting Platoon Chief Luis Gomes said Cambridge Fire was called to townhouse units in the Preston area at 10:23 p.m. Saturday.

One person went to the hospital but was treated and released.

Two units were completely destroyed and two other units were badly damaged by smoke and heat, Gomes said.

Some other nearby units were also damaged, including melted liner.

Gomes said fire investigators remain on the scene. The cause of the fire has yet to be fully determined. No estimate of damage was available.

The Canadian Red Cross is helping those displaced from their homes.
