10,000 liters of fuel leak from gas tanker after collision in Hamilton, police say

A dump truck and a gasoline tanker collided Monday morning, spilling about 10,000 gallons of fuel, the Hamilton Police Service said in a tweet.

The accident occurred near Golf Club Road and Highway 56 in Hannon, a suburb of the city of Hamilton.

One user responded to the tweet, asking about the possible impact on drinking water in the area, but Hamilton Police are redirecting the question to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.

The Star has contacted the minister’s office and will update once more information on environmental impact is provided.

Police warn that the following areas around the accident are currently closed for an “extended period of time” during the investigation:

  • Highway 56 and Golf Club Road
  • Fletcher Road and Golf Club Road
  • Highway 56 and Guyatt Road

  • Hendershot Road and Golf Club Road
